The Townsville RSL stadium will soon be Townsville’s largest solar project with the installation of more than 1600 solar photovoltaic panels on the stadium roof and shade structures in the car park by Ergon Energy.
The solar panels will cover 90 per cent of the stadium roof space and the entire system will produce about 335kW of electricity generation, enough to supply somewhere between two thirds and all of the daytime use of the stadium, or between one third and half of the daily use. That’s the equivalent of supplying the daily requirements of 66 homes.
The project will be completed in May 2012 and will include a dynamic display inside the main foyer of the building.
