The Magnetic Island Solar Skate Park, located on Horseshoe Bay Road, is a showcase of innovative renewable energy technology and provides an important facility for the local community.
A comprehensive community consultation program was conducted to provide an opportunity for community input during the design of the 100 kilowatt Solar Park. This work was recognised by the International Association for Public Participation, which awarded the Solar Skate Park community engagement process the Project of the Year award for Queensland in 2011.
The Solar Skate Park provides:
- solar shade and sun safety for skate park users
- a family BBQ and picnic pavilion with views to the skate park and playing field
- shade for home and away teams around the playing field
- a stage pavilion for community presentations
